SIMPLE HARDWOOD FLOOR CLEANER: RECIPE Mixing up new formulas is a clearly a hobby of mine. I love not spending hundreds of dollars on cleaning products and knowing exactly what I’m using in my home. 2 tbs lemon juice 2 tbs Castille soap – I like the almond for wood floors. If you like a little more fragrance add an essential oil of your choosing.  My favorite for cleaning products are almond and citrus. Mix in Method Spray Cleaner Bottle – Spray on floor using a damp cloth over a mop to wipe. Because these cleaners contain oil – you do need to make sure you shake the bottle, to keep the liquids mixed while cleaning. Make only what you need – as with no preservative it won’t keep fresh for long with the water content in this recipe. I’ve also used Method Hardwood Floor Cleaner, using about 1/2 cup and putting it in a spray bottle, fill with water. Spray directly on the floor and mop with a damp cloth. This isn’t the first time, and I know it won’t be the last time I fight against these little insects. Scales are pesky little creatures that can  literally suck the life out of your houseplants. They are usually hiding beneath their hard outer shell. This shell is what makes them difficult to get rid of. They only crawl at a certain stage in their life cycle. Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve ever seen one crawl, nor have I ever seen a picture of one crawling. I’ve only read about them crawling after they hatch. I have acid stained cement floors in my living, and dining room, so I don’t have to worry about  carpet being damaged. I also use the solution on my wood floors around my stairs to clean the sap off. The best thing is to catch the scale before the honeydew gets onto any of your floors or furniture and ruins them. Home Remedy For Getting Rid of Scale I have used this solution on my plants many times without any damage to my plants.

However, I strongly suggest testing on a couple of leaves before using this on your entire plant. If you don’t test, don’t blame me if your plant dies. You have been officially warned LOL. I also like to use rubber gloves so my skin does not absorb the alcohol or dry out my hands. If your plants are too big to take outside make sure to protect your floors and furniture. This stuff will drip off the plant. 1 tsp detergent (I used a generic brand, you can also use plain Dawn) 3 Tbsp Isopropyl Alcohol 70% Mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle and you are ready to go. I use a moistened  microfiber cloth to wipe the plants. Spray one section of the plant at a time saturating the entire leaf with the solution. Then carefully wipe each leaf to remove the scale and sticky residue. I go leaf by leaf. This can be a bit time consuming, but I found this works best for  my plants. Make sure you get all the nooks and crannies. Here is a picture of a couple of the plants I had to work on.

The tall one I used to take outside, but now it’s too big so I work on it in the house. It’s a good idea to check your plants weekly or at least monthly to see if new scales show up. In my case they seem to come back in full force every few months. I try to catch them before there are too many. I just had to do major surgery on one of my large plants because I waited too long. Now it sits outside with one remaining leaf. It may end up in the trash, time will tell. I hope this post helped you I’m not a plant expert, just someone who has loved houseplants since I was a kid. Fortunately, laminate flooring is very durable and more resistant to stains and scratches than regular hardwood flooring. The top layer contains aluminum oxide particles and melamine resin, which adds extra durability and moisture protection.

In spite of its durability, you can still damage the surface of a laminate floor if you aren't careful. Mild cleaners should be used with care to avoid damaging the surface of the laminate while cleaning dried paint. Clean the floor with a vacuum cleaner to clean up any dirt and debris that might scratch the floor. Wipe over the surface of the floor with a dust mop to remove any other remaining dust or small particles that the vacuum left behind. Place a small bucket on a work surface. Mix equal parts of white vinegar, water and rubbing alcohol in the bowl. Add 5 or 6 drops of dish detergent into the bowl and mix the ingredients with a spoon until soap suds form. Wet a cloth rag in the mixture and scrub the surface of the paint in a steady back-and-forth motion. Rinse the rag in the bowl and continue to scrub until you can no longer remove any paint. Allow the floor to dry. Apply acetone nail polish remover to a cloth rag. Dab the rag onto the surface of any remaining paint. Leave the acetone nail polish remover on the surface of the paint for 5 minutes.

Wash off the nail polish remover with warm water, using a cloth rag. Pull up any loosened paint by the edge with tweezers. Continue to apply and wash off the nail polish remover until the paint is completely cleaned from the laminate floor. Wash the floor with the white vinegar, water and dish detergent mixture. Clean the floor with a vacuum cleaner to clean up any dirt and other debris that might scratch the floor. Apply paint remover or floor degreaser to the dried paint with a cloth rag. Allow the cleaner to penetrate the paint for a few minutes. Wipe off the paint with a clean cloth rag. Apply more paint remover or degreaser to the paint and repeat the process to clean off any remaining paint. Rinse off the floor where you removed the dried latex paint with a cloth rag and warm water. Clean the floor with a wood floor cleaner and allow it to air dry before walking on it. Spray ammonia-based window cleaner to the dried paint and allow it to soak into the paint for a few minutes. Scrub off the paint with a cloth rag.
