top 10 cylinder vacuum cleaners

“Along with changing sheets, vacuuming is my least favourite household task”, says Aggie MacKenzie, standing on a piece of carpet which has been befouled with sawdust and pet hair. “Lugging it up the stairs, changing the sockets, tripping over the flex: it’s annoying. I don’t even bother vacuuming stairs, I use a dustpan and brush.” It is comforting to hear this confession from the UK’s most recognisable cleaning authority, who for six years fronted the exuberant Channel 4 show How Clean Is Your House?, with Kim Woodburn. MacKenzie, a journalist, is rigorous in her investigation of the five, top-of-the-range vacuums arranged around her. Suction power is important but MacKenzie has other considerations. “It’s no good hauling a huge thing around,” she says, prizing instead the sleek, the nimble and the user-friendly. A vacuum should also look “at least a bit appealing, because it’s not an appealing job. You’ve got to be able to open the cupboard without hating the sight of it.”

She concludes: “You need to feel at one with your vacuum.” This is very hard to push, and that’s maybe because you are actually turning the brushes manually as you go. In that respect it’s like the old Bissell carpet sweepers, although even those were less stiff to use. And we certainly don’t want to go back to those days. It also looks like a prototype, like it’s not sure what it is, so it’s hard to have confidence in it. It’s hugely expensive considering it’s got such a small dust compartment, and I think the user will get fed up.

This isn’t a bad little number. It’s flimsier than the others but it’s simpler, and it’s the only one that doesn’t leave any kind of mark on the carpet. The battery only has a finite life, 25 minutes or something, which would spur you to be more efficient. You’d just whip it round and get it done rather than lingering over it. The canister is nice and big, it’s light – why would you want a corded vacuum if you could choose not to? It’s a huge step forward. Suction 36g Noise level 82db

This is a pleasure to use; it’s so effortless it almost leads you around the room. It may not have such strong suction as the Dyson, but I like it. I use a bagged cleaner at home and there’s something quite satisfying about throwing the bag away, when it’s all full and taut. Suction 59g Noise level 78dIt’s a blinking elephant! You wouldn’t need to go to the gym with this thing. What amuses me about Dyson is, whenever they bring out a new one, which is quite often, they say: “This one is the best Dyson ever.” It makes you think: “I bought the previous Dyson – now I’ve got an inferior model, have I?” This one’s big and scary and unnecessarily over-designed. The ball might seem like a clever idea, but it scores deep lines in the carpet. It really is an ugly bugger: very loud, very heavy. You wouldn’t thank anyone for it. Suction 102g Noise level 80db These are supposed to be the most popular vacuum in Spain, and you can see the benefits: if you’ve got a dishwasher and washing machine, why do your own vacuuming?

You set it to wake up and it’ll trundle out of its docking station, clean the floor and go back to charge. It’s only worthwhile in certain homes – no clutter, lots of floor. It can’t handle stairs, and even though it’s quiet, it goes on for hours, so it’s best when you’re out of the house. You also have to empty the canister fairly often, but for big, unencumbered floors, it would be perfect. Suction 41g Noise level 65db The suction trial was conducted on a 3m² carpet embedded with 200g of fine MDF sawdust. The results represent the weight of the vacuums’ contents after 30 seconds of hoovering. The Roomba, which moves slower than a human-operated vacuum, was given three minutes of roaming. Noise levels were measured in decibels from a 50cm distance. Buy Hoover Velocity VL81VL01 Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Buy Dyson DC40 Multifloor Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Buy Dyson DC39E Multifloor Bagless Cylinder Vacuum CleanerDyson Cinetic™ Science = Dyson’s latest technology for 2015-2016. What makes this technology different is that Dyson uses special rubber tips on the end of each cyclone which oscillate 5,000 times a second to filter out fine dust particles, and eliminate the filter.

So the Cinetic vacuums require no filter cleaning or replacement, nothing to clog, as a filter is not needed. Root Cyclone™ = Root Cyclone™ technology uses powerful centrifugal forces to separate dust from the air. New Dyson cylinder machines have three distinct stages of cyclonic separation – each engineered to capture smaller and smaller particles. Radial Root Cyclone™ = Radial Root Cyclone™ is the latest Dyson Cyclone technology , where airflows maximize suction power. These refinements can help remove more dust, pet hair, and allergens. Best Dyson Vacuums for Pet Hair = Although all Dyson uprights and canisters will do a great job with pet hair, those that we call a pet hair vac have extra tools (like the mini turbo brush) to get rid of pet hair problems. Dyson calls its pet hair vacuums, Dyson Animal or Absolute vacuums. The best pet hair vacs are the Dyson Cinetic Animal Upright, the Dyson Cinetic Animal+Allergy Upright, the Dyson Cinetic Animal Canister, and the Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum.

Lifetime HEPA Filter = Most Dyson Vacuums have a HEPA filter. A HEPA filter is best for those with allergies to dust. HEPA filters will remove the smallest particles of dirt, dust, and pet hair so that you don’t breathe in what you are vacuuming. Dyson Absolute V6 & V8 Cordless Vacuums have Whole machine HEPA Filtration. Great for those with allergies or pets. Dyson Cordless Vacuum = Dyson cordless vacuums have more suction power than the competition. Radial Root Cyclone™ keeps the filter clean, unlike the competition which can have dust and dirt caked on and must be cleaned regularly. The latest 2016-2017 V6 and V8 Animal Cordless Vacuums have as much suction power as the leading corded uprights, yet weighs less than 5 pounds. There is no difference in suction between all of the 2016 V6 models, only the floor tools and accessories they include. The V8 model has more suction and more brush power than the V6 models. Dust Ejection System = The new 2016 cordless Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum is the first Dyson with a dust ejection system, that in one step, empties the bin, and cleans the screens and bin at the same time.

This is the best dust ejection system on the market. Differences between Dyson V8 Vs. V6 = The Dyson V8 is Dyson’s latest and best cordless vacuum. It differs from the V6 model in that it has a battery runtime up to 40 minutes (twice the V6 model), its dust bin is 27% larger, it adds a dust ejection system, status lights, more powerful floor tool, has whole machine HEPA filtration, and is 50% quieter than the V6 models. The Dyson V8 Absolute is the best cordless on the market for 2016. Which Dyson Cordless has the longest battery life? = The new 2016 cordless Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum is Dyson’s best cordless vac. It has the longest battery life of any Dyson cordless at 40 minutes (less when using motorized tools). Suction Airwatts = Dyson has measured suction power in Airwatts (AW) and you can compare suction power by comparing the measured suction. Higher numbers indicate more suction. Extension Hose = All Dyson uprights and canisters have an extension hose, which allows you to vacuum not only the carpet or floor, but to vacuum upholstery, drapes, stairs, and walls.

Dyson V6 Vs. DC59 = The Dyson V6 are the newer cord free models that replaced the DC59. Aside from cosmetic differences, they have the same V6 motor, and other components. The only difference is the Hepa filter on the Dyson V6 Absolute Cordless Vacuum, and the new Fluffy hard floor tool, also available on the V6 Absolute. Mini Turbine Tool = The Dyson Cinetic (Animal and Animal+Allergy), Dyson DC65 (Animal and Animal Complete), the DC39 Animal (Canister), all include an air driven “Tangle Free” Mini Turbine Tool to vacuum upholstery, car seats, and other areas. This is especially useful for removing pet hair. The new 2016-2017 Dyson Cinetic Animal+Allergy Upright, the Dyson Cinetic Animal Upright, and the Dyson Cinetic Animal Canister all include the newly updated tangle-free turbine tool, that helps prevent hair, threads, pet hair and other hazards from tangling around the counter rotating brushes which is the main difference when you compare this to the previous versions.

Dyson Ball™ Technology = Dyson invented the Ball type of vacuum. The vacuum sits on the ball and is highly maneuverable around obstacles, much more so than a regular vacuum. The Dyson Cinetic “Big Ball” (Animal and Animal+Allergy), The Dyson DC65 (Animal and Animal Complete), and Multi-Floor vacuums have Dyson Ball™ technology. Extra Toolkit = The 2016 Dyson Cinetic “Big Ball” Upright Vacuum includes an Extra Toolkit and toolbag to combat dirt, dust, and pet hair. Gallon Bin = We list the gallon capacity of the bagless dust bin. The larger the bin, the more capacity and less number of times you will have to empty it while vacuuming. Pet Hair Removal = Dyson vacuums have strong suction and are ideal for pet hair removal. With an air or electric driven brush head, Dyson vacuums are also suitable to remove pet hair from carpets and rugs. Difference between Dyson DC65 models = What is the difference between the Dyson DC65 Animal Complete, Animal, and Multi-Floor?
