Keep in mind that a little goes a long way, you just need enough liquid to dampen the mop (or cloth) and scrub away.

If you’re happy to damp mop with straight water, try adding about 10 drops of essential oil per gallon of water for extra cleaning muscle. Isn’t it too acidic for hardwood?If you poured a bottle of vinegar directly on the floor and allowed it to sit, it would most likely damage the surface. However, in the mixtures above it is well diluted and only used as a damp mop (meaning excess liquid is squeezed out). Vinegar is an excellent household cleaner and brings a lot of muscle to the job.

Wax Testing & RemovalWet your fingers with water then flick into a corner of the floor where there’s not much traffic. Vacuum your hardwood floors to get up all the dust and debris before you clean it.

Find out about your hardwood floor if you don’t know what the wood is and the finish is. Polyurethaned floors have a hard finish and can be cleaned with a small amount of water, while shellac or lacquered floors can’t have any water on them and may need to be waxed regularly. Clean polyurethaned floors with a mop. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with water. Wring out the mop extremely well and then run the mop along the grain.Start at the interior corner and work out toward a doorway, so that you won’t step on your wet floors. Wipe up excess liquid if you see standing water. It can cause damage and buckling in your floors. Buff the floor on your hands and knees with microfiber cloths. Read the polish directions carefully. Test an area of your floor by applying the polish and wiping it with a microfiber cloth. Clean your floor well, buff it and let it dry. Spray the polish on the floor or apply it to a cloth, according to package directions.
