I didn't think that one of the projects would be cleaning my couch in the front room :/ But seeing it in the day light with the full sun hitting it totally grossed me out. Our dog, Max, has decided to make this room his own. When he's naughty and gets into things that he shouldn't...aka, spatulas, candy and knives off of the counter...he takes them in here to destroy.

He also has claimed the couch has his own...see exhibit A below :: and all his hair::: Can't see the hair yet? Not gross enough for you? Well, look at this: Now this is all over the couch....like allllllllll oooooover the entttiiire couch. I've attempted to clean this couch in the past with the vacuum attachment. Works, but doesn't really work. It gets the loose hairs off. But when you have a dog that sleeps on something and rubs his head and what nots into it 8 hours a day every day, you need something a little stronger. The only other thing I could think of is the lint roller. It works, but I can go through a whole roll and still have hair stuck in all the crevices. That's 1: time consuming and 2: annoying. I've tried a few things in between but nothing really worked. So pretty much nobody ever used this room because it was just too nasty....and its pretty pathetic that I have to have two lint rollers hidden in the corner for when people do use the room without knowing, they can get all the hair off their clothes when they leave.

Well, I saw in Real Simple a few years back a good way to get rid of dog hair. And I was like...hmmm. I'll keep that in mind. But then I never tried it because I was like, really, how can that work when nothing else does??? by golly miss molly, it was working!!! It started gathering the hair into little rolled yarn looking things. It felt like I was spinning wool....except not. It was awesome to see! Microfiber is a popular choice among many homeowners when it comes to furniture. I think it's because microfiber looks luxurious and is just begging to be lounged upon. Furniture made of microfiber resembles furniture that is made of suede. Despite this, the difference between the two are night and day. Suede is similar to leather as it is made from the flesh side of an animal hide, while leather is made from the outer layer. Compare that to microfiber, which is a man-made material. Ultra-thin strands of polyester and nylon are wound together to create upholstery fabric that is durable, hypoallergenic and beautiful. With microfiber being both water resistant and dust proof, you may think to yourself, "what's the catch?" Even though microfiber is easy to clean, just like anything else, it is vulnerable to stains if you aren't careful. Microfiber upholstery is a bit more challenging to work with than regular fabrics, but they do tend to hold up well if vacuumed regularly and cleaned with the proper products.

But if you have a stain, don't worry. I know just how to clean it up fast. So let's get busy cleaning! Always do a spot check in an inconspicuous place beforehand. If the color is affected, do not use the cleaning solution. Do not over saturate the furniture with cleaning solutions or water. If you happen to do this, remove as much moisture as soon as possible. All upholstered furniture is difficult to dry quickly or completely. All furniture products and fabric coverings have a label with the recommended cleaning method to use. You might find the tag with the cleaning codes on a printed label under the seat cushions, on the underside of your couch or chair or on fabric samples. These labels should be your guide and are extremely useful when it comes to choosing your cleaning solutions and the method you choose to clean the furniture. There are several types of cleaning solutions that you should never use with microfiber. If you elect to use a commercial product, make sure you buy the correct cleaner.

If you received a manual with your furniture, check and see what products the manufacturer recommends to clean your microfiber upholstery. I have microfiber furniture and I usually use Resolve when cleaning it. It's highly concentrated and removes dirt and odors. This cleaning method will help to remove a variety of stains, including but not limited to: ink, red wine, mustard, soda, tea and coffee. Tip: If you are trying to remove a large stain from your microfiber furniture, work in one section at a time and clean it completely before moving to the next. If the label on your microfiber upholstery clearly states that you cannot use a water-soluble product, you need to clean an entirely different way. If this method does not work well enough, you may want to think about calling a professional cleaner. Properly caring for your furniture can provide you years of comfort.
