This is super easy!By Deb Spear Comment By Barbara Flag0Taking the venetian blinds to the car wash is a super idea! You can use the soap brush and then blast wash them. Gonna do it this weekend. Reply Tip: By Diana0 FlagI admit I am a bit of a clean freak. I hate dust, streaky glass, spotted stainless steel and appliances. Therefore, I was in quite a state with dirty/dusty blinds (36 windows worth) and an ivory leather couch (what were we thinking) that was dirty and dingy. Desperate for a solution I took my "MR CLEAN" magic eraser purchased for 89 cents at the local supermarket and went to town. I first cleaned the blinds with a damp cloth and then "erased" them. They were as clean as they had ever been and with much less effort. Next, I tackled the couch. The eraser removed years of newsprint, sticky fingerprints and even an ink stain came right up. I am not sure that this didn't harm the leather but, it sure looks good for now! I use my eraser on woodwork, painted surfaces, appliances and well, you get the picture.
I always rinse the eraser well and allow to drain. I never squeeze it as this seems to shorten it's life span. Now I only have to do the wood blinds a few times a year. It seems to make them repel dust for a long time. Reply guest (Guest Post) Flag0I had some really dirty, greasy blinds, that should have been thrown out and replaced, but I took them down to the car wash and spent $1.75 and they look brand new! I suppose a pressure washer would also work. I just held them in one hand and sprayed with the other. Reply By Jennifer Flag0I wipe mine off with baby wipes. It removes any dust build-up and doesn't leave a residue. For an average window it takes around four-five wipes. It beats the rinsing off method.
No water spots or missed spots this way. I usually do a room of three windows in 30 mins(10-12 mins. each). The results are worth the effort and time.Jennifer CA Reply Question: By cheryl gay0 FlagWhere do I buy the special cleaning products to clean Venetian blinds? Buy a new one and use the old one for projects like this. Next, make two individual loops of twine (strong string), each about as big around as a soup can (or as large as you may need for your blinds) and put these onto the rod before installing the rod over the tub. Use your own preference as to how close you may want your blind against the back wall. Finally, simply lift your blind and place either end of the top, mechanism bar only, into the loops of twine allowing the rest of the blind to hang freely.
